Joseph “Jay” H. Aughtman is the founder of Aughtman Law Firm, LLC. He has practiced law since 1996 beginning his career as a law clerk for Justice H. Mark Kennedy on the Alabama Supreme Court. He then spent 14 years as a partner at one of the largest plaintiff law firms in the country. His practice includes class actions, business disputes, commercial litigation, insurance disputes, personal injury and products liability cases.
Jay has focused his practice representing thousands of individuals and small businesses. His specialties include claims for fraud, breach of contract, denial of insurance proceeds and statutory violations. He handles litigation against insurance companies, banks, mortgage companies and manufacturers of defective products. Jay has successfully tried to a jury verdict over 40 cases with no defense verdicts. The cases where Jay has been lead and co-counsel have achieved settlements and verdicts totaling more than $400 million.
One of the key elements of Jay’s practice are the contacts made over the years in the legal community. He has an extensive network of co-counsel and referral attorney relationships nationwide. He practices in nearly every state in the nation through these contacts. He has been admitted to practice in the federal courts of AL, GA, MS, FL, NC, SC, LA, TN, NJ, PA, CA, TX, NY and IL. Jay co-founded the Class Action Litigation Group within the American Association of Justice which now boasts more than 400 members nationwide.
